Phi Lambda Rho Sorority, Inc. originated as the club Flor de Aztlan at California State University, Stanislaus during a time when Greek organizations on campus were scarce. The club, formed of strong-willed and ambitious Mujeres, recognized the need for a support group for women pursuing a higher education.
Thus, after some time, the initial members decided to transform the club into the first Chicana/Latina-based sorority on the university campus. The Founding Mothers, comprised of 20 young, dedicated and proud women, chose the letters “Phi Lambda Rho,” which reads “Flor” in Greek. |

Chapter history
In the spring of 2002, first-year student Irma Lule and her friends, who identified as Latinas, Native Americans, and African Americans, were contemplating the lack of representation on such a large campus. They felt as if UCLA lacked a support group for women of color and felt like no organization on campus at the time had the adequate principles to mold women in higher education academically and professionally.
Irma Lule believed that all women of color, should have a variety of choices and options available for them to develop themselves and become active members not only on campus, but also in the community. It was then that she arrived at the conclusion that a Latina-based sorority should function as a second familia to support the ambitious young women seeking a higher education. She looked into different sororities and after thorough research and talking to individuals, she was assured that Phi Lambda Rho Sorority was the best choice. After diligence and perseverance, the ladies grew together through their process and on May 10,2003 their hard work was rewarded as they established Phi Lambda Rho at UCLA, now known as the Dynamic Delta Chapter of Phi Lambda Rho Sorority, Inc.
